How are weeds classified?
"Nuisance"
Nuisance weeds are troublesome, but not regarded as particularly difficult to control. While these weeds can still have a negative impact on the ecosystem, they are not regulated by the state and DVCD does not receive grant funding to help eradicate them.
However, you can find a nuisance weeds field guide from the University of Nevada Reno here. It includes photos for identification and treatment options.
"Noxious"
Noxious weeds are detrimental or destructive and difficult to control or eradicate. All of the above-listed species are currently classed as noxious by the State of Nevada, and the District receives a limited amount of funding each year to help control these species.
If you are concerned about a noxious weed infestation and curious about treatment options, you can consult the Nevada Department of Agriculture website or contact the District directly.
"EDRR"
Early Detection Rapid Response (EDRR) weeds are a subcategory of noxious weed species which are limited in distribution throughout the state and known to be harmful to Nevada's ecosystems and agricultural production.
EDRR species in the list above are designated with an asterisk (*). The District currently receives funding for surveying and controlling these high-priority species. You can report EDRR sightings for the District to monitor with the EDDMapS app.
